Listed Infrastructure Deserves a Core Place in Portfolios

 

The Catalyst Global Listed Infrastructure UCITS fund was launched on 12 December 2024 and received section 65 approval to be marketed in South Africa.

The fund invests in listed infrastructure companies across offshore utilities, transport, communications infrastructure and energy transport, with Catalyst arguing that the asset class combines long-duration earnings, defensive cash flows and structural growth drivers.

Theodore Freysen, Portfolio Manager at Catalyst, discussed the case for the asset class with Citywire South Africa, which rested on the nature of the underlying businesses.

The manager says the asset class offers equity-like returns with lower volatility, while ageing power grids, electrification and data demand are creating a fresh earnings cycle.
