South African listed property (REITs) has turned solar into its go-to sustainability story with every major JSE REIT now reporting an installed base and a percentage of demand it covers, and that number ticks up every reporting season.
Battery storage is the next thing coming up behind solar, however it is still immature. A few portfolios have it, everyone describes it differently, and unlike solar there is no standard metric the market expects yet. In short, batteries today are roughly where solar was three to four years ago.
